Charles W. Crater of East Point, GA passed away November 12, 2015. After graduating high school he was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean war as a military policeman. Returning to the States he was stationed at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL where he met his wife of 59 years, Mary Juanita. Being career military they moved frequently spending time in Maryland, Puerto Rico, Illinois, Texas and Georgia. In Texas, he spent 9 months learning the Vietnamese language and served as an interpreter in Vietnam. Chuck, as known to most, was an accomplished golfer and served as either the assistant or golf pro during most of his military career. He retired from the military after last being stationed at Ft. McPherson. Chuck is survived by his wife Mary Juanita, daughter Brenda Crater of College Park, GA, daughter Patricia C. Kukla of Atlanta, GA, son-in-law Kenneth J. Kukla of Atlanta, GA and his beloved white toy poodle Baby. Also, surviving is a sister Ruth Wance of Millheim, PA. Chuck was preceded in death by his brothers, William (Bill) Crater and Junior L. Crater.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday November 21,2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Historic Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home 2968 East Point Street, East Point,Georgia 30344. The Family will receive Family and Friends on hour prior to the service. Charities in lieu of flowers: PAWS Atlanta, American Heart Association, Veteran related charities.
