Betty, Jill, Matt, and Family,
 
I was saddened to hear of Bill's passing.  I worked with Bill on the Transmission Business Unit's Large Transmission Team.  He brought a down to earth perspective and in-depth technical know how to the large truck transmission design.  In addition, he was fun to be around.  

I still share his home spun quotes.  They were simple yet filled with wisdom.  

He and I shared the same retirement dinner.....I shortened my comments so we could hear what Bill had to say.....he was so much more entertaining!!!!  

I know you will miss him so.

You all have our heartfelt condolences.  Mike, myself and Carlin Cook, my husband, all graduated from Crittenden County High School in 1955.  Mike was a great person.  When he was in KY on vacation he use to come by Sears and see me.  I appreciated that so very much. I have had Mike on my mind lately. Spoke with Mary Ruth this morning and she told me. I had the pleasure of meeting Mike this year and he always brightened my day. To see the love and devotion he had for his wife was beautiful... we don't see enough of this anymore. He spoke about his daughter a lot but I can't remember if I met her or not. I'm not sure if I met his son either. I looked forward to our conversations and he often made me laugh. He was very straight forward like my own father had been. My last conversation with him I told him I would be praying for him.

Mike... you have no idea how our short talks and visits meant the world to me. For a short time it was like having a part of my dad back. You're presence here on earth will be missed but you memories will forever live on!! Until next time my friend, keep everyone company and make them laugh!'

Matt, Jill and families.  My heart felt condolesing to you.  Mike and I were in school together in Marion ky.  I knew your Grandpa and Grandmother and they were just super people, so proud of Mike and moved to east Peoria until he and Betty married.  They then returned to Dycusburg Ky and built a new house.  I was also Maid of Honor at their wedding.  We kept in touch all these years and did meet you at their 50th anniversary.  Gods blessings to your Mother and the family.        Sincerely

I still remember attending the World Wide Mining conference back in 2003, where Bill was a speaker. Every dealer TC had this session tagged as a "must do" and they were all riveted to Bills every word. The respect for his expertise reached well outside the walls of the transmission factory.

Im so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful man.

Dear Betty, Jill, Matt, and family, I was so sorry to hear of Bill's passing.  He was one-of-kind and a very dedicated Caterpillar employee.  Although I am currently out of state and will be unable to attend either the visitation or the funeral, please know that my thoughts and prayers will be with you now and in the days to come.

My sincerest condolences to the family.  I started with Caterpillar as an engineer trainee in 1978, and met and worked with Bill very early on, and then throughout my career.  Bill would listen well, when I had a problem to discuss with him.  Then he'd very patiently advise me on how to proceed, and why, drawing on a wealth of experience.  But what I really loved about Bill was his sense of humor, and caring about how things were going for me.  And though as a new engineer, I was timid about nearly everything, Bill was willing to jump in the deep end on any problem, and could explain it in his own unique way whether to a trainee like myself, or a Cat VP -- what a great example for me to emulate.  He was also good at solving problems of life, after probing you with a few questions, and providing valuable advise there as well.  What a special person Bill was!  It's the people you remember when you are done with your career -- Bill's one of those at the top of the list.  How fortunate I was to have met and gotten to work with him!

My condolences for your loss.  Bill was an amazing hands-on engineer.  Always enjoyed hearing his Kentucky-isms.

I write today with the most sincere of condolences for the passing of you beloved husband and father.

I started working with Bill in 2005 when I joined Caterpillar Transmission Business Unit.  I was a naive/eager farm kid just trying to make a difference.  On the other end of the  spectrum was Bill, the seasoned, wise, 'Grandpa' of the team, as he often referred to himself.  He had such a wealth of knowledge and experience, and what set him apart was his unending desire to share it with us, his 'young pups'.  He never stopped caring and never stopped sharing.  

I was blessed to see Bill at an employee gathering in early April.  The joy he had seeing all the engineers he helped shape will be my lasting memory.

God Bless your family as you grieve his passing, and celebrate his memory.

Betty, Jill, and Matt.  I am extremely saddened to hear of your loss.  Starting my career at Caterpillar in 2005, I worked with Bill in the Transmission Business Unit.  I consider him a mentor and friend.  Your husband/father was a fantastic Engineer, instrumental in my technical career development.  He left a positive and lasting image on me and my peers.  

As an FYI, one of the patents Bill received during his years at Caterpillar, was a project to address part durability on a product where I had design responsibility (Small Off Highway Truck Torque Converter).  Bill spent many of his years in the Transmission space, but willingly provided me guidance and leadership that led to a solution that was unique enough to warrant a patent.  I have a duplicate of the same patent plaque (that you will find at Bill and Betty's home), hanging on a wall in my house, proudly displaying Bill's name alongside Jason's and mine.

Jill and Matt so sorry about your dad. We will all miss him very much. He was a fun one for me to give a a hard time to. He was so dedicated to your mom these last few months. I was glad to see that. I pray that time will bring peace and healing to both your families.
