Virgil E. Stewart, age 92, of East Peoria, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at 11:02 a.m. at his residence. He was born Sep. 9, 1925 in Virginia, IL to Latney and Wilma (Lambkuler) Stewart. He married Margarette Frazier June 25, 1948 in Bellevue, IL. She survives along with one daughter, Jackie Stewart of East Peoria, one son, Philip Stewart of East Peoria, four grandchildren: Kyle (Jessica) Goode of Washington, Ryan (Kristen) Goode of Marquette Heights, Kimberly Stewart of Ohio, Melissa Stewart of Ohio, six great-grandchildren: Skyler, Zane, Trinity, Christian, Jaidyn, Nora, and one brother, Donald Stewart of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Michael Stewart.
Virgil was a WWII Navy and Marine veteran. Following his time in the military, he was a bookkeeper for Simpson Oil. Later, he worked at the Texaco Terminal in East Peoria and then was an over the road truck driver for Texaco. Virgil was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and he was ecstatic when they won the World Series. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing in Wisconsin.
He was a member of Christian Assembly Church in Peoria.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Terry Goode will officiate. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton with Military Honors.
