Shirley L. Nieukirk

Shirley was born on September 8, 1926 in Peoria, IL to Howard E. and Lillian Mae (Harris) Warkle. She married Lawrence “Larry” Edward Nieukirk on July 29, 1949 and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1997. Also preceding her in death are her parents; three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are her one son, Larry E. (Jackie) Nieukirk of Freeport, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley graduated from Woodruff High School in 1945. She worked for Caterpillar for 10 years and later worked for Versa Press until she retired. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and the Order of the Eastern Star, both for 25 years, the American Legion Auxiliary for 49 years and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary since 1949. She was President of the of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War for three years and for the last 12 years was a member of the Golden Agers in Washington as well as attending Sunnyland Christian Church.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 1pm at the Spring Bay Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Spring Bay Rescue Squad. Arrangements were made through Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Online condolences may be made through www.remmertfuneralhome.com
