Washington-Roscoe Lowell “Fid” Fiedler, 86, of Washington, IL passed away Tuesday, July 1st, 2014, at home peacefully with his loving wife Marjorie at his side. Roscoe was born on Feb 21st 1928, in Springfield, IL to Roscoe and Emma (Monts) Fiedler. He married Virginia Moschel in 1959. She is deceased. Virginia had three daughters prior to her marriage to Lowell. Together they had two sons. He married Marjorie Maggard-Weller Dec 1st 1984-she survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, DeWilton and Vernon, one sister Leona, and one grandson Adam. Surviving is one brother Edward P. (Gerrie) Fiedler of Mount Pleasant, one sister Juanita (Jerry) Carl, Southern IL, two sisters in law Dorothy Fiedler of Winter Park, Florida; Ellen Baily of Southern IL. Also surviving are three daughters that he raised as his own-Kathy (Mark) Broyles of Streator, IL. Janet (Randy) Tullar of Washington, IL, Julie (Joseph) Frakes of Creve Coeur, IL. His two sons are Willard “Will” (Kristy) Fiedler of Washington, IL and Paul (Barbara) Fiedler of Rochester, IL. He had many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A very dear friend, John Schulzski of East Peoria, IL was like a brother for over 50 years. He survives. They traded stories every night at 7pm on the phone. Lowell served in the Army in the Korean War as a company clerk. He was decorated for his services. When he returned home, he became a legendary carpenter. “Fid” was known for his signature stairways that were built in many fine homes in the Peoria area, including his own. He was also a master gardener and took great pride in planting several hundred tomatoes each year along with many other vegetables. People would drive from afar just to have a “Fid” tomato. One of his other passions was Purple Martins a migratory bird from South America. He was a member of the Purple Martin Nature Society and had one of the largest private martin colonies in the United States! He was featured in the Journal Star for his purple martin colony and his stairways. As an expert woodsman, his interests included hunting, trapping, fishing, ginseng hunting, and watching wildlife in general. He was a very witty, genuine, caring, and Godly man. He will be missed by family and friends alike.
Visitation will be held at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria, IL Sunday, July 6th 2014 from 4-7 pm and one hour prior to the service at church. Funeral services to be held at Highview Christian Church in Washington, IL on Monday, July 7th at 11am. Burial will be at Hirstein Cemetery, Morton, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to T.A.P.S.
