Ronald D. Simmons

He was born November 23, 1950 in Peoria, Illinois to Cecil L. and Mary Lena (Jones) Simmons. He married Sherry Martin on December 4, 1971 in Creve Coeur. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Melissa Taapkin and one brother, Michael Dale Simmons.

Ron leaves behind the love of his life Sherry, of Creve Coeur; two children, Danette (Jeff) Gooch of East Peoria and Ronald David (Rachel Malott) Simmons II of Marquette Heights; five grandchildren, Hunter, Ronnie, Endeara, Quentin and Parker; five siblings, Louise (Richard) Lenaway, Wayne (Donna) Simmons, Patrick (Debbie) Simmons, Dale Simmons and Kimberly (Greg) Peak and many nieces and nephews.

He served in the U.S Army and was honorably discharged. Ron then worked as an assembler with Caterpillar Inc. at the Mossville plant for 30 years before retiring in 2003. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 974.

Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. The Rev. Robert Martin will officiate. Remmert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
