Roberta B. Kelso

Roberta was born on August 10, 1936, in Zeigler, IL, to Theodore R. and Agnes A. (Readhead) Hoak. She married Richard Dale Kelso Sr. on June 25, 1955, at the First Baptist Church of Creve Coeur, IL. He passed away on January 10, 2018, in Edinberg, Texas. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, William L. Hoak, Theodore R. Hoak Jr., Lilly L. Hoak and Carol A. (Hoak) Cole.

Survivors include two sons, Richard D. Kelso Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, and Scott A. (Susan) Kelso of Morton, IL; one daughter, Tyleen M. (Robert) Rentfro of Litchfield Park, AZ; and five grandchildren, Ashley A. Rentfro of North Hollywood, CA, Jennifer K. (Mark) Isbell of Peoria, IL, Austin J. Rentfro and Kelsi L. (Cameron) Griffin, both of Litchfield Park, AZ, and Elizabeth K. (Zach) Peterson of Sunrise, FL. She is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Amara Peterson and Briza Peterson of Sunrise, FL, with another great-granddaughter, Griffin, due to arrive on October 19, 2023.

Roberta was a member of East Peoria Community High School Class of 1954. She worked as an accountant for Caterpillar for 30 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Creve Coeur and, later, Cornerstone Baptist Church of Groveland, IL. Upon retirement, Richard and Roberta became “Winter Texans” by virtue of spending the winter months in Donna, Texas. And, in 2006, they moved to Donna, Texas, full-time, where they stayed for 25 years.

The family would like to thank the care team of Noble Hospice of Mesa, AZ, for their exceptional care they afforded Roberta, enabling her and the family to maintain dignity and quality of life.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Pastor Jonathan Chadbourn will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
