Born Dec. 30, 1919 in Palmyra, MO to Roy Joseph and Leona Pearl (Coleman) Brownell. She married Bradley Bellamy on August 20, 1938 in Palmyra, MO. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Larry (Judith) Bellamy of Normal; one daughter, Marilyn Kay Gilbert of East Peoria; 3 grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eileen Franks of Hannibal, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, William and Sydney; and one grandson, Bradley.
Mrs. Bellamy attended school in Philadelphia, PA and Palmyra, MO. She enjoyed reading and cross word puzzles. Rachel and her husband lived in Peoria, Vicic Addition, and East Peoria. Rachel played softball for Emily’s Market when she lived in Vicic Addition. She worked seventeen years for Gilmore Food Service at the Morton Caterpillar Plant Cafeteria. She also worked at Jumer’s and Petro’s Pub and Steak House in Peoria.
Rachel attended the Vicic Addition Church of God for a number of years. She taught Sunday School Class and was in charge of the Church’s Youth Program for several years. The First United Methodist Church was the church she was associated with at the time of her death. Rachel was also a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader.
Rachel enjoyed cooking, reading, and being around family and friends. She especially enjoyed Tuesdays with her granddaughter, Tamara Gilbert, and going to lunch with Sally and Lynn. Rachel treasured the visits of Sally, Lynn, Doug, Carol Ogle and Dan Demiter. The family appreciates the support of everyone. Special thanks to the personnel of Morton Terrace Care Center and Proctor Hospital.
Rachel was a loving, caring, faithful wife, mother, and grandmother. Rachel, especially her little smile, will be missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to charity of donor’s choice.
