Janice was born in Benton, KY, to Emmett and Mayme Lawson on May 28, 1940. Janice was lovingly referred to by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Granny, Granny Jan by friends and coworkers. She loved children and knew no boundaries when it came to helping others. Janice lived her life by her strong faith. She spent most of her life babysitting and had childcare in her home for many years. She was employed at Eastside Center from 1996-2019 as a babysitter. She earned her GED at ICC in East Peoria.
Janice is survived by her four children, Keith (Geri T) Solomon, Teresa (John) Solomon Broshears of East Peoria, Kevin (Vicki) Solomon of Washington, IL, Terica Solomon of Tahoe CA; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Merle Lawson of Danvers, IL; sister, Norma Jean Deering of Murray, KY, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Solomon; father, Emmett Lawson; mother, Mayme Hallee Lawson; brothers, Robert Wayne Lawson, and Joey Carnell Lawson; sister, Katy Faye, and great-grandchild, Margert Irene Donahue.
Jan loved daisies, and collected pigs, rocks, writing poems, drawing, painting, hand embroidery, and loved animals.
In lieu of flowers, plant daisies in her remembrance and remember: “Don’t worry, be happy”, her favorite message.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Remmert Funeral Home. A private service followed by a Celebration of Life is to be planned for September.
