He was born July 6, 1937 in Vandalia, IL to Ernest and Gwendolyn (Guy) Ray. He married Beverly Helmig on April 5, 1957 in Peoria. She passed away Oct. 2, 2008 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by parents, his stepfather, J.C. Butler, three sons: Jett Ray, twin sons: Lance, Vance Ray two brothers: Dennis and Barry Ray, and one great-grandson, Wesley.
Survivors include one daughter, Dawn (Wade) Richrath of East Peoria, one son, Shawn (Stacy) Ray of Spring Bay, one daughter-in-law, Stacey Ray of Eagle River, WI, seven grandchildren: Holly, Cody, Ashley, Brandon, Levi, Steffany, and Matt. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, two sisters: Vickie (Jim) Warren, Cathy Bankes, and one aunt, Ann Smith.
Ervin owned and operated Vachon Break Service and Parts in Peoria until his retirement in 2014. He was a past member of the Kickapoo Archery Club, and the Heart of Illinois Arabian Horse Association.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery at a later date. Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
