Dennis was born on December 4, 1949 in Peoria, the son of Lavern and La Verne Short Smith.
He is survived by one brother, Darrell Smith of East Peoria; one sister, Ardis (David) Diebel; four nieces and four nephews.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Marleen Clark.
He was a horseman at Arlington Park in Chicago.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Remmert funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Pastor Tim Bohm will officiate.
Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
