Mr. Arvid Swede H. Nelson

East Peoria – Arvid “Swede” H. Nelson, 92, of East Peoria, IL passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Fondulac Health Care Center in East Peoria, IL. He was born July 22, 1924 in Peoria, IL to Bror and Annette (Hermanson) Nelson. Swede married Shirley Cawkins on May 15, 1971 in Galesburg, IL.

Surviving is his wife Shirley Nelson of East Peoria, his children: Christopher (Raema) Nelson of East Peoria, IL, Diane Bellamy of East Peoria, IL, Richard (Donnajean) Nelson of Florida, David Nelson of East Peoria, IL, and Sharon (Tim) Kirchgessner of East Peoria, IL, eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Swede was preceded in death by his parents.

Swede was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II. Following his service to our country, Swede went on to work for WEEK TV as an engineer for fifty-seven years, retiring in 2004.

His hobbies and interests included HAM radio operation, model railroads, photography, playing the accordion, and spending time with his family and friends.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of Swede’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
