He married the love of his life, Rebecca Cook, on September 9, 1961, in Watkins Glen, New York. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Thomas earned his PhD from the University of Rochester, where he laid the foundation for a remarkable career. For 39 years, he was a dedicated professor at Michigan State University, serving in both the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Microbiology, Genetics, and Immunology. His passion for teaching was evident to all, and he received numerous awards recognizing his excellence in education and his ability to inspire countless students.
A dedicated father and teacher, Thomas will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca; their children: Andrew David (Nancy nee Ward), Richard Adam (Sheila nee North) and Edward Thomas: grandchildren: Thomas Andrew and Joseph Robert; step grandchildren: Sarah and Matthew; and nieces and nephews: Glen, Alan, Vicki and Daniel and siblings: Norma "Betty" Elizabeth Withiam. He is preceded in death by his parents: Wilfred and Norma Corner.
A memorial service for Thomas will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 1:00pm at the MSU Alumni Memorial Chapel, 636 Auditorium Rd. East Lansing, MI 48824. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to MSU College of Veterinary Medicine, 784 Wilson Rd. G-100 East Lansing, MI 48824 or to Hospice of Lansing in his memory. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
