Sarah "Penny" passed away peacefully on May 27, 2019, at the age of 99. Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Coleman, M.D., brother and sister. She is survived by her children, George and Stephen (Susan) Coleman, and Rebecca (Steven) Townsend, three grandchildren, Jason (Rachel) and Ryan (Taryn) Coleman, and Nina (Ethan) Halliwell, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Coleman was born and raised in Kokomo, Indiana. She was a 1944 School of Nursing graduate at Indiana University. She married Dr. Joseph E. Coleman in September 1945. She resided in Evansville for 58 years before moving to Michigan in 2008 to be near her daughter. Mrs. Coleman was a valued member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for 63 years. She was a long time devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Evansville. She was an avid collector and proprietor of the Tuesday Shop in Newburgh, Indiana, and later in her home, specializing in primitive country antiques.
Sarah "Penny" was well known for her quick wit and words of wisdom, and a photographic memory of her ancestry.
A graveside service will be held later this summer in Evansville, Indiana, where she will be buried next to her husband.
