Our hearts are broken as we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and papa, Robert Monroe Hughes, on November 27, 2018. He was born to John and Frances Hughes on January 26, 1937 in Lansing, MI. He leaves behind his wife Ellen Farr Hughes, daughter Kelly Oppenlander (Todd), sons Jeffrey Hughes (Linda) Gregory Hughes (Nicole), grandson Kaelen Hughes (Madison), granddaughters Kierra and Kyleah Oppenlander, two Sisters Darlene Brownfield (Ken), Sharon Huntoon (Howard).
Robert graduated from Okemos High School in 1955. He then spent two years in the United States Army as an honor guard. He had a long career as a self-employed master electrician and also with Michigan State University. The family would like to thank McLaren Hospice Lansing (Becky and Alaina) and Mother Teresa House, Lansing (Trish, Anastasia and all volunteers) for the extra special care given to Robert.
The family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing on Sunday, December 2nd from 1-3pm. Private interment will follow.
