Richard P. Kelley, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 in East Lansing. He was born February 15, 1936 in Rogers City, Michigan, to Felix and Mary Kieliszewski. After graduating from Michigan State University, he worked for many years for the State of Michigan in various capacities. He most recently worked in the Department of Education as a school bond loan consultant, helping schools expand and enrich their facilities, impacting generations of students across the state. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveled the globe, enjoyed delicious food, and befriended all those he met.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Sue Kelley, and his parents.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kathy (Kent) McPhaul and Michael Kelley; his grandchildren, Jacob, Nicole, and Rachel McPhaul; his brother, Robert (Margaret) Kelley; his sister, Mary Wyrembelski; and his longtime partner, Patricia Killam.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 1:00pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing, Michigan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
