Phoebe Earleen Tyler Griffin died December 26, 2017, born in Iron River in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the only daughter of Florence L. Matthews and Dr. Earl C. Tyler. Phoebe married Donald Dale Griffin on January 31, 1957 at Grace United Methodist Church in Lansing.
She is survived by her husband and her two children, daughter Susan (Marvin) Maule and their daughter Melissa and husband Jose Salazar Torres and their daughter, Phoebe Earleen Salazar Maule of Bel Air, Maryland, and son Bruce (Sue) Block of Dimondale, MI and their children and grandchildren, Libby (Justin) Holton and son Max of Bloomfield, MI, Kristin (Steve) Lukowski and their children Ryan and Courtney Ann of Gaines, MI. Brother Walter (Nancy) Tyler of Davis, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John (Shirley) Tyler.
Phoebe was active in her community, serving on boards for The American Red Cross, Greater Lansing Safety Council, Fenner Arboretum Nature Center, the YWCA, the College Women’s Volunteer Service, and Mobile Meals Board. She was trained and served as a hospice volunteer and was a certified Master Gardener and docent at the MSU Children’s Garden. She was a former member of the Arbutus Chapter O.E.S. and Mother Advisor of Rainbow for Girls, as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Phoebe and Don received the MSU Honorary Alumni award in 2004, and they were members of the MSU Robert S. Shaw Society. She was also an active member at Grace United Methodist Church; President of the Women’s Program, she worked with Pastor on youth programs and served as a worship chairperson. Don and Phoebe cooked and served the monthly Men’s Fellowship for many years at church.

Private Memorial Services have been held, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
