Paul Yan Liu, aged 73, passed away on July 15, 2024, in Haslett, Michigan. Born with a zest for knowledge and service, he pursued an extensive educational journey, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan, a Masters in Communication from Wheaton College, and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University.
Dedicated to his career as a child and adolescent psychiatrist, Paul started at Michigan State University at the Olin Health Center. He then worked at Wellspring Counseling Services and served at Clinton-Eaton-Ingham, West Branch, and Newaygo Community Mental Health. He was deeply appreciated by his coworkers, clients, and families, to whom he expressed profound gratitude for their camaraderie and trust throughout his professional life.
Paul was a man of diverse interests, including golfing, collecting comic books, and shopping at Costco. His love for late-night movies was well-known among his friends and family, providing many cherished memories of shared experiences. Having grown up in a Chinese restaurant in Grand Rapids owned by his parents, Paul valued hosting and planning gatherings with loved ones and ensuring everyone was well fed. He brought joy to many people, with an infectious laugh, a broad smile, and a “gaboo” sense of humor.
He is survived by his loving wife, Min Chiang Liu; his children, Peter Chiang Liu and daughter-in-law Abigail Hope Liu, Maria Chiang Liu and son-in-law Patrick Norvel Ryan; siblings Ben Tze Liu, George Tse Liu, Marlene Liu Hamann, Johnny Liu, Gary Liu; and his granddaughter Holly Liu Ryan. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his brother, Steve Tze Liu, and his parents Guncheung Liu and Kim Chintang Chan Liu.
A visitation for Paul will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Trinity Church, 3355 Dunckel Rd, Lansing, MI 48911. This will be followed by a memorial service from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Paul's life and legacy will be celebrated by family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness, selflessness, intellect, and spirit.
