Pat was a talented artist and as a young woman worked for Jacobson's Department Store doing fashion illustration. Her dream was to attend Parson's School of Design in New York City, but she put that dream aside to marry her loving husband, John, and raise her 4 children.
She was a past president of the McAuley League of St Lawrence Hospital and had volunteered for many years with the hospital. She and John have resided in Haslett for the past 64 years. She was a nature lover and a bird watcher. She fostered a wonderful childhood through gentle encouragement to excel at school, summers spent exploring at the cottage in Northern Michigan, and a strong appreciation of holiday traditions. Later she ensured that family bonds would remain strong by consistently encouraging family gatherings, especially during holidays, even when she herself was struggling. Her quiet strength and loving presence will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Dr Perry C. Spencer and Gladys (Wolf) Spencer. Surviving is her husband of 67 years, John Richard Leary, and her brother James (Connie) Spencer. Four children: Brian (Darlene) Leary, Linda (Gary) Bowman, Patrick Leary, James (Yukiko) Leary and 3 grandchildren: Kathleen Bowman, Nathaniel Bowman, and Taishi Leary.
