Mrs. Kim is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Tae Yong Sim.
She is survived by her loving family: husband, Dr. Hak Jin Kim; sons, Henry, Thomas and Larry Kim; daughter, Diane Lee; and grandchildren, Max Lee, Marcus Lee, Jenna Lee, Amelia Kim, Gabriel Kim, Micah Kim, and Erin Kim.
Mrs. Kim graduated from Daegu Girls Middle School, Daegu Girls High School, and Daegu Catholic University (f.k.a. Hyo Sung Women’s University). She valued her childhood friends and maintained her relationships dating back to middle school during the course of her life. Overcoming an initial language barrier, she made many friends in Charlotte as she spent over 38 years volunteering in her community as a member of the Charlotte branch of GFWC Michigan—General Federation of Women’s Clubs. She readily took on new challenges and enjoyed playing golf and skiing as an adult. In addition to learning new sports, she sought intellectual pursuits. Mrs. Kim studied for several months to score well enough on the TOEFEL exam to get accepted into Michigan State University’s graduate education program. To feed her spiritual needs, she served as a Deaconess for decades at the New Hope Baptist Church. She lived her life with purpose, enjoyed traveling the world with friends, but most of all, cherished her family.
