No one was prouder of his Greek heritage than Nicholas William Kritselis. He died August 31, 2022 at the age of 51 after collapsing at home. Niko, as he liked to be called, traveled extensively throughout his lifetime. His most treasured moments were of his six-month stay in Greece in 1999 where he had an apartment in Athens and traveled around the country and to many of the lovely Greek Islands. Niko also spent a month in Africa traveling on safaris, river cruises and even bungee jumped off Victoria Falls. During his junior year in high school he participated in a “King Arthur Adventure” tour in the United Kingdom which he loved. He experienced many adventures in his travels and enthusiastically recounted them to friends and family. He was a graduate of East Lansing High School where he competed in track and cross country. He graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in history with minors in sociology and religious studies. He loved attending MSU football, basketball and hockey games and studiously filled out his NCAA basketball bracketology during March Madness. He enjoyed attending Broadway play performances at Wharton Center for the Performing Arts. He also loved Shakespeare in print or performance form. He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where for many years he taught Greek folk dancing to the youth of the parish. He also held a class for adults who wanted to practice and simply enjoy the dances. His big passion was photography which he began in his early teen years. He also had a fascination with the martial arts since his teen years and conducted extensive research on the various styles throughout the years including the present time. He loved chatting with people of all ages and sharing his love of history. He also enjoyed cruising around in his precious 2007 red Mustang convertible with the top down. He will be remembered fondly for his big smile and infectious laugh. He was preceded in death by his father, prominent local attorney, William Nicholas Kritselis. He is survived by his mother, Elaine J. Kritselis and several cousins. The funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Saturday, September 3 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 am with Trisagion services at 10:30.
