Michael Slayton Hammontree

He was born on February 2nd, 1969 in Garden City, Michigan to Charles Hammontree, Sr. and Linda Zimmerman. Michael grew up in Westland, Michigan spending his time playing his beloved sports of baseball and football. He graduated from John Glenn High School in 1987. It was here that he met his wife of 30 years, Leigh, at the young age of 16. He later attended Eastern Michigan University on a full ride scholarship to play baseball and football. He was known for his analytical brain, gift of gab, his love of sports, gardening, and fishing. He will always be remembered by his family for raising his three children, McKenzie, Abigail, and Michael Jr., always their number one fan, coaching their sports teams, giving words of wisdom and advocating for their success. Mike will be missed and loved forever.

He is survived by his wife, Leigh Anne Hammontree; his three children, Michael S. Hammontree Jr. (24) McKenzie L. Hammontree (21) Abigail S. Hammontree (17); his brother, Chuck Hammontree; his sister, Patty Hammontree; his uncles Darrell (Liz) Wright and Clarence “Jimmy” Wright; and many other loving extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Linda Hammontree; grandparents Charles and Alberta Hammontree; Eldon and Alice Zimmerman

A visitation will be held Sunday, November 20th, 2022, from 2:00 PM -5:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home Lansing Chapel, 900 East Michigan Ave. Lansing, MI 48912, with a funeral service held on November 21st at Riverview Church REO Town Venue, 1115 South Washington Ave. Lansing, MI 48910 at 12:00 PM with visitation one hour prior starting at 11:00 AM.
