Michael Jay Gruizenga

East Lansing, MI

Age 65, passed away February 8, 2015 at Eaton Community Palliative Care in Charlotte, MI. He was born to Nicholas and Dorothy Gruizenga on May 21, 1949 in Kalamazoo, MI.

Michael is a Vietnam and U.S. Army Veteran and worked for the State of Michigan Department of Treasury as well as Mitchell Corp. of Owosso. He was a member of University Christian Church, enjoyed cycling as a participant of the Tri-County Bicycle Association, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Nicholas and Dorothy Gruizenga and sister Linda Gruizenga. Surviving are wife Joan; three daughters Rachel (Justin) Haynes, Krista Coffin and Stephanie (Alex) Vert; two sons Michael Gruizenga II and Kevin (Julia) Clark; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also surviving is his sister Carol Rutgers.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015 at University Christian Church, 310 N. Hagadorn, East Lansing, MI 48823.
