

East Lansing
Born May 13, 1926, in Normal, IL, died at age 88, on March 13, 2015 at home. Her parents were Harry L. Diehl and Ella McCormick Diehl. She grew up on their farm near Gibson City, IL, and graduated from Vassar College. After working several years on the west coast, she moved to Michigan, married Dale A. Voelker of Saginaw, June 7, 1953. He died March 14, 1957. After completing a MA degree from University of Michigan, she moved to East Lansing and taught elementary school in Lansing until retirement. Reading, traveling, community volunteer work, and gardening were major interests. Most of all, music was important to her from childhood.
Her parents, and her brothers, John and Hal Diehl, predeceased her, as did her brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer and Aldean Schulz, Francis and Lois Walsh, and Mary Lou Diehl. Surviving are her daughter, Laura Voelker of Reston VA, her children, Sari and Nick Warren, and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins. On September 6, 1996, she and Paul Slocum were married. A memorial service will be held 11 am, Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 855 Grove St., East Lansing, MI.
