Martin William Johnson, 62, of Haslett, MI went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 1, 2018. Born on September 9, 1956 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, he was the firstborn child of the late William Pierre Johnson and Patsy (Harris) Johnson. Marty was a loving husband, wonderful father, and adoring “Pappy.”
He worked as a medical physicist at Sparrow Hospital for 30 years and was an active member of Trinity Church, serving on the elder board. He was a 1979 national champion cheerleader at Michigan State University and went on to serve the MSU athlete community through Athletes in Action. Reading, traveling, and watching movies were his favorite pastimes, enjoyed most when they were done with his family.
Marty will be dearly missed by his devoted wife of 36 years, Jayne; his four children, Amy, Samuel (Jessica), Isaac, and Esther; his two grandboys, Ephraim and Levi; his sisters, Joanne (Michael) Townsend and Brenda (Richard) Roston; his half-brothers, Daniel (Julia) Johnson, Michael (Helen) Johnson, and David Johnson; and many other family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father and his mother.
Visitation will be held at Trinity Church on Dunckel Road in Lansing on Friday, October 5, from 5-7pm and on Saturday, October 6 from 10-11am followed by the funeral service at 11am. Burial will be at 4pm at Memphis Cemetery in Richmond, MI.
