Mark Robert Stein, age 64, of Lansing, MI, passed away on October 10, 2024. Born on August 16, 1960, to Robert and Barbara Stein of Okemos, MI. Mark lived a life filled with love for his family, friends, and music.
To those fortunate enough to know him, Mark was a steadfast friend, a loving family member, and someone who would do anything for the people he cared about. His passion for music, and the history of rock 'n' roll, was a defining aspect of his life. With infectious enthusiasm, he joyfully introduced, educated, and shared the magic of music with those around him. Mark attended countless concerts over the years, with Bruce Springsteen forever standing at the top of his list.
Mark enjoyed exploring breweries near and far with his lifelong friend, Jeff Many, always in search of a new adventure. He held many fond memories of fishing with his friend Ron Campanelli and competing in football pools. A die-hard Michigan football fan, he knew how to take a good-natured ribbing from friends and family who chanted “GO GREEN!”, always embracing the camaraderie and fun.
He is survived by his daughter, Megan (Dennis) O’Keeffe; his adored grandchildren, Harrison and Phoebe O’Keeffe; his brother, Russell (Tricia) Stein; his sister, Nicki (Brian) Guggemos; and his nieces and nephews, Toria, Tony, Gunnar, and Jenna Stein, and Sarra, Jack, and Calle Guggemos—who will forever remember his sharp sense of humor, generosity, and presence in their lives.
He was blessed with many treasured friends throughout his life, including Jeff Many, Kevin Ruttan, Tom Keeley, Pat O’Byrne, Tony and Linda Shottenkirk, Michael BB De’Angelo, and the entire Campanelli family whose support and companionship, especially in his final months brought him immense comfort and peace.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved four-legged companion, Mateen, who will surely be the first to greet him at Heaven's gates.
Mark's spirit will forever resonate in the music he loved and in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him. We’ll meet you further on up the road, Mark. Until then, as Mark would always say, “Keep Rockin’ in the Free World!”
