Marilyn was born January 18, 1929 to Marion and Forrest Musselman and passed away peacefully in the presence of family July 18, 2017. She grew up and went through elementary, middle and high school in East Lansing and graduated in 1947. She then went to college at Ohio Wesleyan University for 4 years and graduated in June, 1951 with degrees in Home Economics and Education. Following that, she worked for Michigan State University and the State of Michigan in the extension department of MSU as a Home Demonstration Agent in St. Clair County. She lived in Port Huron in an apartment for 4 years.
Marilyn met Roland James Ledebuhr on a blind date; they courted and married on April 18, 1953 at The Peoples Church, East Lansing, Michigan. They lived near Capac, Michigan for three years while operating their dairy farm. Marilyn also played the organ for the church and continued to serve as an extension agent.
In 1956, they moved to Lansing and Rollie became involved in real estate with his father in law, founder of Musselman Realty. As children arrived, Marilyn dedicated her life to raising them and volunteering. She volunteered at Sparrow Hospital for many years serving as President of the Women’s Board of Managers as well as member of the Board of Directors. She was actively involved in nearly everything at Peoples Church and served as an Elder and President of the Women’s Society. Additionally, she served the East Lansing Woman’s Club in many positions as well as Alpha Chi Omega as President of their alumnae group. Marilyn actively supported her children, Amy and David, as a volunteer in the East Lansing school system, as a leader in the Boy and Girl Scouts and she chaired the East Lansing Public Library Board of Trustees. While in college, she was a member of Mortar Board, Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, the Student Council, and several other groups. In short, Marilyn enjoyed and believed in sharing her time, gifts and talents and volunteered all her life.
Marilyn’s passions were her family, the family cottage on Elk Lake, gardening, travel and music. She loved reading and volunteering. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She always put others ahead of herself.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Roland J Ledebuhr. She is survived by her dear sister, Betty Musselman Eiler of Saratoga, California, her beloved children, Amy Ledebuhr DePan (Paul) of Spring, Texas and David Ledebuhr (Jane) of Okemos, Michigan, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 17, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at The Peoples Church, 200 West Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. prior to service. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to The Peoples Church Organ Fund.
