Marguerite J. “Peggy” Cook-Bitner of East Lansing, age 90 years young, passed away May 24, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Peggy was born in Pewamo, MI, May 1, 1925 to August and Elizabeth (Stump) Kramer. Marguerite grew up on a farm near Pewamo and attended a one room school house where students brought lumps of coal in the winter. She lettered in basketball at Pewamo High. Peggy graduated from Pewamo High School and continued her education receiving a nursing degree from St. Lawrence Nursing School. Peggy worked as a nurse, teacher and realtor. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing cards, golfing, cooking and most of all, her family. She is predeceased by her first husband, Donald Cook; son Buddy Cook, daughter Debbie Cook, and brother Robert Kramer. Surviving is her husband, Russ Bitner; daughter, Diane (Mike) Cook-Ciepiela; sons Denny Cook and David (Laura) Cook; grandchildren Erica, Ryan, Alexa and Harrison; great-grandson Wyatt Cook-Woods; brother Jerry (Jeanette) Kramer and David (Judy) Kramer; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 4, 2015, 11:30 a.m. at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Road, East Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 3, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing with the Rosary being prayed at 7 pm.
