Lorraine Kleihege Steffens, longtime resident of East Lansing, passed away on July 20, 2024 at the age of 94. Lorraine was born December 21, 1929 in Hamtramck, Michigan to John Andrew and Valeria Sipulewski Janowski.
Lorraine and her family moved to Chicago as a teenager, where she worked for the Railroad before marrying John R. Kleihege in 1961. John and Lorraine lived with their children in Calumet City, Illinois before moving to Boone, Iowa and then to Haslett, MI. After the death of her husband in 1973, Lorraine took over the family business Superior Sheetmetal/Titus the Tinner before marrying Robert P. Steffens in 1979 and moving to East Lansing.
Lorraine has been a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in East Lansing since 1966, and a longtime member of the Meridian Senior Center.
She enjoyed all types or needlework and was very lucky at Bingo!
Lorraine is survived by her children: John (Mary) Kleihege of Mitchell, Indiana, Mike (Nancy) Kleihege of San Angelo, Texas, Martha (Guy LeBaher) Kleihege of San Francisco, California, Carl (Robin) Kleihege of Shelby Township, Michigan and Robert (Judy) Kleihege of East Lansing, Michigan; 8 Grandchildren; and 10 Great Grandchildren.
Lorraine is preceded in death by spouses John R. Kleihege and Robert P. Steffens; parents John and Valeria Janowski; and siblings Dolores Porozinski and John Janowski.
A funeral mass for Lorraine will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 11:30am with a visitation one hour prior at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 955 Alton Rd. East Lansing, MI 48823. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
