Kevin was born on November 28, 1962, in Lake Forest, Illinois, to Mary and Bill Joyce. The second of four children, Kevin graduated from East Lansing High School and attended classes at Lansing Community College. A lifelong sports fan, Kevin played hockey throughout his youth and often cheered on his beloved MSU Spartans.
Beyond sports, Kevin loved music, especially classic rock and heavy metal. He attended many live concerts by groups like Styx, Deep Purple, Rush, AC/DC and Judas Priest. Throughout his life, he amassed an extensive collection of vinyl and CD recordings and knew all kinds of trivia about the musicians and their exploits.
Many people knew Kevin through his job as a produce stocker at Goodrich’s Shop-Rite in East Lansing. He was proud of the knowledge he gained about all varieties of fruits and vegetables, and was happy to help customers find what they needed. Though he rarely had much to give, he had a generous heart and a positive outlook on life. During his final weeks, he expressed gratitude for the full life he had led, the family that loved him, and the opportunities that had come his way.
Kevin is survived by his three siblings (Sean, Britten and Brooke) and many cousins, nieces and nephews. His family wishes to thank his caregivers, Tonya Johnson and Yalonda Thomas, who helped him live independently in his final year, and the staff at Stoneleigh Residence and Hospice of Lansing, who helped him pass away without pain or worry. Donations in memory of Kevin can be given to the church or charity of your choice.
