Judy Rau

Born on May 17, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, to Thomas and Thelma Gates, Judy's journey through life was marked by love, kindness, and a deep commitment to her family and community. On November 22, 1986, she married the love of her life, Rich Rau, after the two met while working together at Bryant Heating and Cooling in Madison Heights, Michigan.

Judy's life took her to various places, including East Lansing and Boyne City, leaving a trail of cherished memories and lasting connections. She was a devoted and longtime member of Martin Luther Chapel and served as the former president of the H.E.L.O. club, embodying the spirit of community and friendship.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, Rich Rau, and her children, Steve and Yolanda Kassak and Andy Kassak. She also leaves behind her brother, Howard Gates, and a special friend, Jan Dressel. Judy is preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Shepheard, and her parents.

Judy’s family truly gives thanks for the wonderful care she received from the McLaren Hospice Team over the last eight months.

A memorial service to honor Judy's life will be held on December 6, 2023, at 1:30 PM at Martin Luther Chapel, 444 Abbot Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823, with a one-hour visitation from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Judy’s memory may be made to Martin Luther Chapel.

Judy Rau's legacy is one of love, compassion, and community. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
