John Williams went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 18, 2017. Born in Boston and raised in Nova Scotia and Waltham, Mass. John graduated from Waltham High in 1948, from Northwestern University (BS) in 1953 and with his Master’s Degree in Science and Engineering from Harvard University.
Mr. Williams worked as a Civil Engineer in fields of foundation, structure and highway engineering with the US Corps of Engineers in Boston and Lansing. He worked for MDOT (MSHD) for over 32 years, retiring as Engineer of Road Design in 1991.
For the last 52 years he served the Lord at Grace Fellowship (Haslett Baptist as an Elder and Sunday school teacher), he also served as a trustee and treasurer. John is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years JoAnn, his daughters; SuAnn (Keith) Pendell, Deborah Koester, his son; John (Dawn) Williams, grandchildren; Michelle, Melissa (Cory) Dowding, Michael, Matthew, Quentin, Dannielle, Adrianna, Adrian, Malachi, Makayla, Max; (Pendell grandchildren). Kayla (Koester), Shelbie, Makenzie, Jayden, Rylee, Christian (Williams grandchildren); his great grandchildren, Abby, Anna, Noah, Judah, Kylie, Chase, Briana, and one on the way (Pendell great grandchildren), Aiden (Williams great grandchild).
For over 30 summers, the family spent vacations at Indian Mound Beach - Buzzard's Bay in Cape Cod and in later years enjoyed traveling the eastern and central states as well as eastern Canada with friends. He was an avid sports fan, particularly regarding the Boston Red Sox, MSU football, basketball and hockey teams.
Memorial services will be on Saturday July 29th at 11am at New Hope Church of Haslett, 1340 Haslett Road. For those desiring, contributions in memory of John may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011 Washington, D.C. 20090-6011. John leaves his love and warmest regards to his family, friends and former co-workers who he hopes will join him some day in God’s eternal kingdom.
