Janice M. Zimmerman was born on April 24, 1943 in Lansing, the daughter of the late A. Jack and Francis (Campau) Bartell, and passed away February 22, 2017 at the age of 73. Janice was a resident of Holt for 29 years. She worked for Harley Franks School of Lansing Public School District for 35 years teaching Kindergarten. Janice came to be known as the “area matriarch”. She also was active in the PTO. Janice loved to travel. She especially enjoyed Florida and all it had to offer. Janice supported the Ingham County Animal Shelter. She was a successful fundraiser for the poor and needy, and also sent care packages to the troops overseas. She was a member of, the Sparrow Auxiliary for 35 years, the Sparrow Women’s Board and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Janice also enjoyed being a Wharton Inner Circle member.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, Jerry; daughter, Ann (Greg Alexe) Zimmerman and her beloved rescue dogs, Rocky and Duke. Janice also leaves behind many family members, friends and students to cherish her memory. A memorial mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3815 S. Cedar Street, Lansing, MI with Rev. John Byers officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 with a Rosary at 7:30, Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing Chapel and 1 hour prior to the mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Janice to the Ingham County Animal Shelter, 600 Curtis St., Mason, MI 48854 or to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, 1169 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor, MI 48108.
