James L. Roth, 77, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 in Lansing, Michigan. He was born August 13, 1943 in Elyria, Ohio to Robert and Virginia (Hadaway) Roth, and spent much of his childhood in Ohio and in New York. He then attended Michigan State University, fell in love with Michigan, and never left.
James loved boating and was a crew member of the Chicago to Mackinaw sailboat races for many years. He was a lifelong avid reader, especially of mysteries, and made great use of the local libraries. He was a gifted woodworker as well, and could make beautiful toys for his daughter Valerie.
Above all, James showed his love through his unconditional generosity and support of his family; whether it was a cooking a meal, cheering during athletic events, or providing time and space to travel the world, James was there for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Robert.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joanne; his daughters, Valerie and Laura.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later time.
In memory of James, memorial contributions may be made the Special Olympics Area 8, to the COPD Foundation, or to the Haslett Public Library.
