James Robert Rawlinson M.D. passed away on February 22nd, 2021. He grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and attended Michigan State University, earning a B.S. in chemistry. He continued his education by attending Michigan State University College of Human Medicine graduating in 1979. Jim combined his critical thinking abilities and passion for building relationships with others and pursued a residency in Family Medicine at St. Lawrence Hospital.
Following graduation, he practiced medicine at the MSU Clinical Center, St. Lawrence Hospital and Sparrow Hospital before opening Cornerstone Family Practice in East Lansing. He truly loved practicing medicine and was able to leverage his interpersonal skills, love for the Lord, and understanding of science to build a successful practice with meaningful relationships that extended beyond the exam room.
For Jim, whether the temperature was 18 or 81 degrees, no day would be complete without golf. He enjoyed the strategy of the game and quest for the perfect swing. Recently, he was able to enjoy a trip to the Monterey Peninsula to play some of the world’s finest golf courses accompanied by his wife and two adult children.
Jim is survived by his wife, Arlene (married 45 years) and son David (Kelliann; grandchildren Isla, Harrison, and Sophia) and daughter, Katie (Greg McEvoy; grandchildren William and Emma). As a devout Christian and member of Trinity Church, Jim had a passion for bringing the Kingdom of Heaven on earth through the power of prayer. He dearly cherished his family, friends, medical patients, and his relationship with the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, we will be making a donation to Matthew 25: Ministries. A Celebration of Life event will be held later this year in honor of Dr. Rawlinson. Contact our family/Cornerstone Family Practice/Trinity Church regarding further details.
