Gwendolin Sinila, age 76 of Okemos passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 15, 2020. Gwen was born in Highland Park, MI. She was raised in Detroit attending Henry Ford High School where she earned a letter in varsity basketball. She graduated with a BS and MA from Eastern Michigan University. Her teaching career included Wayne Westland and Haslett Public Schools. In Wayne Westland she was the first director of a technology based learning center. Later she was a reading consultant and assistant professor of education at the University of Michigan. When she moved to Okemos she taught in the Haslett Public Schools. After retirement in 2003, Gwen enjoyed water color painting and being with her children and grandchildren.
Gwen met her husband Dwight in high school, and married after they both graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1966. She and Dwight enjoyed 54 years of marriage bliss. They traveled the world and were true soulmates. Gwen was the loving mother of two wonderful children, Mark (Christena) Sinila and Susan (James) Kelly. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren, Trinity, Ben, Carter and Lauren. Gwen was a member of St. Martha's Parish and sang in the choir for over 20 years.
Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Lucile Therrian.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Martha's Church in Okemos on Monday, September 21st at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI TBA.
Due to COVID 19 a celebration of life will be held spring of 2021.
