August 21st, 1945 - January 24th, 2022 age 76
Affectionately known as “Hop” to friends and loved ones.
He is survived by loving Wife Anne of 31 years, loving sons Nick (Jennifer) and Mark (Nicole) Hopwood, loving stepson Troy Aymond, sister Martha (John) Lindsay, and 7 beautiful grandchildren who adore their Grampa “Hoppy” - Hunter, Jack, Quinn, Ava, Olivia, Logan and Elizabeth.
Born in Chicago, son of Thomas Milton and Mary Beth Hopwood, Hop attended Michigan State and enjoyed a lengthy 42 career at WFMK Radio in Lansing.
His family moved to Birmingham, MI when he was in middle school and attended Birmingham Groves High School, graduating in the class of 1963. He started at Albion college, transferred to Michigan State, and graduated in 1967. After college, he was drafted by the Air Force during the Vietnam War and spent four years in Philippines and Turkey.
He rose to local Lansing media glory while working for 42 years at WFMK (1976-2018). He was #1 in sales for over 20 years consistently outpacing the market with numerous awards for his service. Hop was well respected and admired by anyone who knew him. He found meaning in his work because he saw the positive impact it had on his clients’ businesses.
He built his home on Lake Lansing in 1986. Boating was a staple in Hop’s life; taking the boys for skiing and tubing rides and Stella for the sunset cruises.
Hop enjoyed a 4-year retirement which was tragically cut short due to the battle with Lymphoma. He had three different bouts of cancer and the third one was the hardest. He passed away peacefully on 1/24/22.
We love you forever and you will always be remembered.
