To Al's wife, family and children,

I am so very sorry to learn of Al's passing.  Even though I was only at Miller Canfield a short time, I got to know Al as we were in the same orientation class.  Al was such a wonderfully outgoing, funny and seriously nice person and he was so proud of his family.  His loss is so incredibly sad.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this terrible time.  May his memory be a blessing.

I had the opportunity to work with Al briefly at Miller Canfield. When Al and I met, our southern spirits connected. We talked about the south and our southern sayings that probably no one else would understand. 

Stacy would laugh at this now... on Valentine's Day while we were at work, Al was stressing about what he was going to get Stacy after my husband had shown up to the job with roses. Al looked at me and said "you making me look bad" lol. So I asked him, "what are you going to do?". If you know Al, he was a simple guy and this was just out of his league. Nevertheless, I told Al I would help him out to surprise Stacy. So Al went to his office and I went to retrieve my roses. I took a rose from my vase and I took it to Al. Thinking he could figure out the rest...lol...he looks at me and said "what do I say?" Lol. I said "Al you're suppose to figure that out" (laughing as I write this). He suggest "Happy Valentine's Day, here's a rose". I said absolutely not Al...  do not go in her office and say that. Omg... he was now flush red, sweating and nervous. I had never seen Al so red! I said "Al you are sweating" and he said "yeah because I'm nervous" with a few other choice words lol. We discussed his feelings for Stacy and how he could present himself. Now he was partially ready. Al walks down the hallway to Stacy's office... apparently it went well because he came back with a smile and less sweat. He just kept saying "thank you" whenever he saw me throughout the day.

Al is an awesome guy and it hurts my heart to know that he is no longer with us. He loved his family. We had some great conversations about our son's playing basketball. My last time seeing him was this year when our son's schools played against one another. We were at Holt HS and I went over to talk with him and Stacy.

He will truly be missed. Stacy thank you for sharing a warm-hearted, southern-spirited guy with us. He will never be forgotten.  ❤

We had the pleasure of working with Al and Linda on the American center for Mobility agreement. Our attorney Doug Winters and I spent several weeks working as a team to bring this agreement forward. He was always a gentleman and loved the Kentucky Wildcats. 

He was one of the good guys and we will always remember him. He spoke of his family often and we are so sorry for your loss.  Sending our prayers.

I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of of Alan and my heart goes out to Stacy and their three children. Big Al and Stacy came into our lives when they moved to the Westside just two doors down from us. I have so many fond memories of them. I remember when Alan would charge that big ole truck up because he was afraid it wouldn’t make it through the cold MI nights and I would always remind him “we don’t live in the North Pole.....your truck will be ok”. But, without fail, he’d have that truck charging the next night and the night after.  And that SMILE, he could always make me smile no matter what the circumstance was. I also had the great opportunity to serve as VP on the EC3 Board while he was President and we made a great team. I’m going to miss him. So many people will. He touched a lot of lives. So much love, hugs and prayers go out to you Stacy and your family ❤️

To the family of Alan Wallace I extend my deepest sympathies for your loss. I first met Alan 4  years ago when he introduced himself as the attorney who would be negotiating an agreement that involved Ypsilanti Township. I along with supervisor Brenda Stumbo spent numerous hours working together and he was  always the consummate professional! All of us involved became good friends and will miss our political conversations and of course basketball! Rest in peace my friend Doug Winters

I am deeply saddened to learn of this news and Alan's battle with cancer. I offer my deepest sympathy to his family in this difficult time. 

My time with Alan was limited as a board member at EC3 but his humor, intellect, and his passion for his kids (and all kids) always came through in every discussion. 

You will be sorely missed, my friend. I will never forget the times we had growing up. It was an honor and a pleasure to know you. I love you, man.

My deepest condolences to you, Stacy and the boys and the rest of your family.  I only knew Al for 3 short years at the office.  I will always remember him as this larger-than-life man that kept a smile with what I called a wonderful southern twang and charm.  He will truly be missed.

Please continue to walk with God and know that time will heal your heart, turning your grief and sorrow into smiles and joyous memories of Al.

Big Al...myself & many friends of mine grew up with Alan & have many memories with him. We all graduated Butler County high school together, Myself was a teammate of his on the Basketball Court from elementary school all through high school. I can tell you that he won’t be forgotten as all of us have plenty of memorable stories from that time period. As we all got older & started our own families & careers time got away to where we haven’t got to stay in touch like we would like. Alan... you will be thought of often big guy. Prayers to your family.

I always referred to Al as a tall glass of sweet tea, and that is how I will remember him. He was a pleasure to work with and through his efforts has made this City truly better for generations to come. He will be deeply missed by all of those who knew him. My heart goes out to his children and wife whom he was so deeply proud.

Alan was our neighbor when we lived on the west side of Lansing over 16 years ago.  He, Stacy and Jacob quickly became our close friends.  Alan’s southern drawl and height certainly made him a presence.  I’ll never forget the morning after my son was born, the nurse woke me up at 6:30 AM because “a very tall southern man is in the waiting room asking to see you.”  I knew immediately it was Alan stopping by before work.  I am heartbroken for Stacy and their children.

I remember when my cousin Alan and I played basketball and being there for thanksgiving and christmas and the cookout in July I will miss him he'll never be forgotten love you Al 

I love Al Wallace, my friend and colleague. Oh, that southern drawl and tallness, he could draw in anyone. Al and I first got to know one another as the Bernero Administration came on board in early 2007.  He worked for Miller Canfield and I was the new Pres and CEO of Lansing economic development. I began putting together a strategy to give redeveloping the iconic BWL Ottawa Power Station building that loomed on the riverfront and skyline in downtown Lansing one last chance (crazy me). It was considered impossible. It's too long a story for here, but "Big Al" became an critically important part of this project which became the national headquarters for AF Group and a world renowned achievement in economic development. We did the impossible. But we couldn't have done it without Al- and then he partnered with us on so many great and controversial and complex economic development projects. In those days, we did sometimes 40 or 50 projects a year in the city. My God the grueling battles to get it right, to get them passed. It was so much fun and so important. Big Al was always there by my and our side. He was so important and had such sound judgement and knowledge, I really did not understand how incredibly young he was! Now I do, and appreciate his expertise and astute political guidance even more. Al always had my back and I always had his. I know people have "work" friends, but Al and I were true friends. I am beyond devastated by his passing . It's just not fair. I loved Al and I am thinking so much about him, his wife Stacy and the beautiful kids. What a loss. Al was also Miller Canfield's Lead Member representative on LEAP's Board of Directors (he attended all meetings) , and always represented Miller Canfield so well there, participating deeply in all regional things economic development. We will be honoring Al at our last LEAP Board meeting of the year in early December. Bob Trezise
