Lansing - Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Frederick James Miller, passed away on August 27 after a short illness at the age of 85. He was born August 7, 1933 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to his parents, Gerald and Florence (Yeakey) Miller. He was preceeded in death by both his parents; his sister, Marcia Lang and his nephew, Michael Lang.
He was educated by the Grand Rapids Public Schools, Grand Rapids Junior College and the University of Oklahoma School of Architecture. Fred moved to Lansing in 1958. He worked for Kenneth Black Associates and the Warren Holmes Company before he went to work for 21 years in the Office of Facilities, Design Division at the State of Michigan. Fred was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church.
Fred was an active member of the Jug and Mug Ski Club in Lansing where he met and then eventually married his "Number One Girl," Beverly Ann (Messinger) Miller. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage together taking several trips, enjoying smooth jazz, attending MSU sporting events, golfing, motorcycling and going to many events with the Hearth and Hill Club.
Surviving is his wife, Beverly; daughter, Michelle (Jason) Hogan of East Lansing; son John of Royal Oak; sister, Judy (Richard) Edmonson of Austin, Texas; 4 Grandchildren, Aubrey Hogan, Brock Hogan, Ethan Miller and Abigail Kroner; cherished niece, Anne (Todd) Snider; special daughter-in-law, Christine Schoenherr and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 3:00 at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 125 S. Pennsylvania, Lansing with a light reception following the service. Family will hold a visitation and greet family and friends before the service at the church from 1:00-2:30.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fred Miller's name to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.
