Okemos, Michigan
Erik Arvid Berglund of Meridian Township died unexpectedly on January 17, 2013. He was 27 years old. Erik graduated from Okemos High School in 2003 and held a degree in Geological Sciences from the University of Michigan. He was an ardent fan of the Wolverines and felt that the prospects for this year’s basketball team were excellent. Erik worked as the plant manager for his family’s business in East Lansing where he was able to draw on his chemical knowledge and contribute his mechanical skills. Erik had travelled widely, especially in Sweden and Europe. At the age of 14 Erik and his maternal grandfather travelled by boat down the Mackenzie River from Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, beyond the Arctic Circle and then by airplane to the Arctic Ocean. Erik was an avid fisherman, golfer, and artist. He is survived by his parents, Dianne Holman and Kris Berglund, and his sister Lisa. Erik was notoriously adventurous, fun and funny. His friends and family will remember him as a kind, sensitive and gentle young man with a big heart. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the CMH Community Education Fund, 812 East Jolly Road, Lansing, MI 48910 (checks payable to CMH on Erik’s behalf).
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, February 2, from 3 -5 p.m. in the Hillside Room of the Eagle Eye Golf Club at 15500 Chandler Road, Bath Township, Michigan.
The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing, Michigan. On line condolences may be made at www.greastlansing.com
