Dennis Edward Swan passed away at age 70 on August 11th, 2024 In East Lansing after a long struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. Dennis was born on October 29th, 1953 in Allen Park, Michigan to Ned and Florence Swan.
Dennis attended St. Francis Cabrini High School in Allen Park and Michigan State University. He worked at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (as it was called then) at MSU for many years. He then opened Swan Research to design and produce particle detectors for research physicists. He loved to tinker with engines, computers, cars, and tractors. He was enthusiastic about aviation and held a private pilot’s license. Before his illness prevented him from flying, he was a member of a soaring club. He also enjoyed spending time in nature and loved the U.P., particularly near De Tour Village. Dennis and Anne moved to a rural 20 acres between Owosso and Perry in the 1980s and enjoyed turning it into a personal nature reserve through the years.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Anne Swan; his siblings, Janet Skeberdis, James (Kirsten) Swan, Susan Howell, Robert (Barbara) Swan, Christine Lancette, Alan (Debra) Swan, Daniel Swan, Jonathan (Lyn) Swan, Andrew (Robyn) Swan; his brother-in-law, Norman (Anne) Cox, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by long time friend, Edward (Fran) Kachman and others, particularly all his old friends from Cabrini.
There will be no funeral. A private family memorial gathering will take place later in the year.
We thank Burcham Hills for the wonderful care given to Dennis during his last two months, which were particularly difficult. We also thank Shari Luce from Visiting Angels, who helped care for him at home.
