Daniel Kortemeyer suddenly and unexpectedly passed away of natural causes on October 18, 2020, at his home at the age of 21. He is lovingly remembered by his family as well as by many relatives and friends.
Daniel graduated from East Lansing High School in 2017 and from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor in Computer Science in 2020. Building on internships in Los Angeles, Munich, and Ann Arbor, this August he started working for TechSmith in Okemos – a job he greatly enjoyed.
Daniel loved being in nature, hiking, boating, and camping. He liked listening to music and playing the cello in his high school orchestra. He also enjoyed building theatre sets in high school and college. Much of his time was spent in front of computer screens or with virtual reality headsets, programming for study and work, but also designing and creating computer games – he also really liked playing them (samples can be found on his website at https://danielkortemeyer.com/). He will be remembered as being earnest, conscientious, loyal, and humble, but also for his dry sense of humor and occasional bursts of goofiness. He always had a helping hand and a listening ear.
Due to COVID and social distancing requirements Daniel’s Memorial Service will be private and streamed for anyone wishing to attend on the YouTube channel of Martin Luther Chapel, East Lansing.
The recorded video can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsY_Y6LveYY
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name are requested to be made to Haven House, East Lansing, www.havenhouseel.org or Friendship House, MSU, www.friendshiphousemsu.global/
The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Chapel, East Lansing.
