

Curtis Andre Cormier, a cherished family member and friend to many, peacefully passed away on November 17, 2023. Born on November 28, 1933 in Bay City, Michigan, Curt was predeceased by his parents, Clayton and Thelma Cormier, and his siblings Clayton, Claudette (Bowden), Mark, and Michael. His youngest beloved sister, Kathy, resides in Texas.
Affectionately known as Frogman to his closest friends, Curt was a devoted husband to Lilian (Bundesen) for 47 years until her passing. Together, they crafted a life brimming with love, unwavering commitment, and shared adventures. Curt’s role as a loving father to David (deceased) and Andrea (Bill) Oleszczak was central to his world. His grandchildren, Lindsey and Mallory (Duncan), affectionately referred to as his “Duncan Donuts,” brought immeasurable pride and joy to his life. In addition to his immediate family, Curt later found companionship and love with his partner, Bette Hammond, adding a new chapter of happiness and fulfillment to his journey.
A proud Spartan, Curt was a brother in the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and a member of the inaugural graduating class of Michigan State University in 1955. Following graduation, he proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the Army, reflecting his sense of duty and love for his country.
After his military service, Curt spent a few years working for his father at the Credit Bureau of Bay City before seizing an opportunity at Shell Oil Company. Subsequently, he moved through diverse roles at respected companies like Aeroquip, Midland-Ross Corporation, the Budd Company, and Alexander Associates. As his career evolved, he ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing a thriving business as a manufacturers’ representative, specializing in serving truck, diesel engine, and construction equipment manufacturers.
In his role as a manufacturing representative, Curt embodied unwavering dedication and a robust work ethic, earning the respect of numerous clients throughout his illustrious career. He found deep satisfaction in his work, often declaring that he had “never worked a day in his life” due to his genuine passion for the job. This remarkable journey concluded with his well-deserved retirement on January 1st of this year, marking the end of a career rich with exceptional contributions to the industry.
Known for his generous spirit, Curt was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone. His compassion and willingness to help others defined his character and left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to have crossed his path. Whether facing challenges or celebrating triumphs, Curt approached life with a spirit of generosity that endeared him to friends and strangers alike.
Curt was a fierce advocate for his family and causes close to his heart. His ability to find strength and positivity in the face of difficulty was a testament to his resilience and optimistic spirit. His favorite saying, “Nil Carborundum Illegitimi” — don’t let the bastards get you down — resonated as a beacon of his unwavering resolve. Even amidst the most challenging times, particularly the loss of his wife Lilian or his son David, he continued to find the good around him.
An avid golfer, skier, and traveler, Curt’s love for exploration and zest for life created cherished memories that will be fondly remembered. His love for driving, especially in his cherished Lexus LC500 (affectionately known as his rocketship), brought him immense delight. Whether venturing with Bette at his side on weekend escapades in Michigan or embarking on a journey to Key West for his winter migration, he always found driving enjoyable as the miles would pass by.
Curt possessed an uncanny ability to find happiness in simple pleasures, reflecting his positive outlook and adding a special warmth to his relationships. Curt particularly enjoyed sharing laughter with friends, relishing the rich aroma of a fine cigar, or savoring a leisurely nightcap. He approached life with a contagious sense of joy and camaraderie, endearing him to all who were fortunate enough to partake in those moments with him.
Curt’s legacy will be remembered as one of profound love, infectious laughter, and a life exceptionally well-lived. Curt’s life journey will be celebrated in a private memorial service in East Lansing in May, followed by a Celebration of Life gathering on May 11th at Harrison Roadhouse in East Lansing. (Details to be announced separately as plans are confirmed.) These events will provide an opportunity for friends and family to come together, share stories, and honor a life that touched so many.
