Carol Marjorie (Weed) Isleib, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born August 3, 1929 in Waterville, ME, and died February 18, 2011 at the age of 81. Her loving and cheerful personality brightened the lives of her family and friends. Her death leaves many grieving hearts.
A graduate of the Englewood (NJ) Hospital School of Nursing, Carol was a retired registered nurse who from early childhood enjoyed sewing and knitting at home. She emerged as an expert weaver, knitter and fiber work specialist. She taught spinning and weaving, and was a widely-recognized innovator in her field. She created many woven and knit pieces admired and treasured by those who were privileged to receive them.
Carol was a gentlewoman in every way, with a keen sense of humor and not constrained by cultural convention. Her family, colleagues and friends are diminished in her passing. She was the love of her husband, Donald, for 60 years of marriage. He and all her family grieve at her passing. Her memory will be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm and Alice (Roberts) Weed; sister Charlotte (John) Eldridge, and brother Donald Weed. She is survived by husband Donald Isleib; sister Kathryn Weed of West Ossippee, NH; children Steven and Linda (Sehr) Isleib of Batavia, IL, Thomas and Sandra (Thompson) Isleib of Raleigh, NC, James and Diane (Groleau) Isleib of Munising, MI; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, 3:00 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River, East Lansing. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, mourners are asked to donate to their charities of choice. The family extends its gratitude to friends and neighbors who visited Carol and to the angels of mercy at Sparrow Hospital’s out-patient dialysis unit, East Lansing Health Care Center and Hospice Advantage who eased her last days.
