Dr. Bruce Martin Nakfoor, Sr., of Naples, FL and East Lansing, died peacefully on March 2nd, just shy of his 87th birthday. Born and raised in Lansing, MI, he was a graduate of St. Mary Cathedral High School. He then received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he played football under freshman coach, Vince Lombardi. Bruce went on to earn a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Georgetown University. After receiving his dental degree, he elected to serve in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain stationed in Okinawa. Upon his return, he established a dental practice in Lansing, Michigan and found the love of his life, Gloria, whom he wed in 1963. He then went on to earn a Master's in Oral Biology/Orthodontics from Loyola University of Chicago. After receiving his degree, the family returned to Lansing where Bruce practiced Orthodontics for over twenty five years. There, Bruce and Gloria raised their family and together they supported many charitable causes and educational foundations. Bruce will be remembered as a gentle giant of a person, with a soft spoken, loving demeanor and an infectious smile that would brighten anyone's day. His love and passion for his family and especially his grandchildren was unsurpassed. He will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents Abraham and Eugenie Nofal Nakfoor, his beloved siblings, sister Bernadette, and brother Emil A. Nakfoor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Gloria Shaheen Nakfoor; his children, Michelle Nakfoor, Esq. (Todd Kramer), of Chicago, IL, Dr. Bruce Nakfoor, Jr. (Silvina) of Naples, Florida, Lisa Nakfoor, Esq. of Naples, Florida, and Dr. Matthew Nakfoor (fiancée, Melissa Halaby) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; his beloved grandchildren, Bruce, III, Sofia and Cecilia Nakfoor, Grace and Anna Kramer; his brother, Dr. Patrick Nakfoor (Carol), sister, Nancy Marshall (John), along with many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.
The family would like to acknowledge and give special thanks to the wonderful caregivers Monica Hughes and Keisha Hughes.
The family will receive friends at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Road, East Lansing, Michigan, 48823 on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 5:00 pm with the Rosary commencing at 7:00 p.m. and visitation again on Thursday, one hour prior to the funeral mass. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, March 9th, 2017, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, at 11:00 a.m. with an interment to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Greater Lansing Food Bank, P.O. Box 16224, Lansing, MI 48901, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, or Michigan State University.
