Anne Marie Rieke (Votteler) passed away September 16, 2015 at home and is now with her Heavenly Father. She was born April 11, 1936 in Chicago, IL, the only child of Carl and Augusta Votteler. They moved to Decatur, IL in 1938 where she graduated from Decatur High School in 1954. She was an accomplished violinist and pianist, frequently playing the piano for church and family events.
Anne graduated from Julia F. Burnham School of Nursing in Champaign, IL, earning her R.N. in 1957. Over the course of her career she was well respected as a neurosurgical nurse and later became certified as an E.E.G. Technologist.
In 1957 she married Paul Rieke, her best friend and the love of her life for over 58 years. They moved to the Lansing area in 1958; they have been active members of Trinity Church since. Anne lived her faith as a loving example to all who knew her. She enjoyed church activities, reading, good music, traveling, time with family and friends, and sunsets over Lake Michigan.
Among those who gratefully shared in her life are her husband, Paul; son, Phil (Donna) Rieke of Lansing; daughter, Amy (Matt) Thompson of Knapp, WI; grandchildren, Rachelle (David) Suggs, Paul Ethan (Jessica) Rieke, Trisha, Caleb and Sarah Thompson; great-granddaughter, Melody Rieke; aunt, Brunhilde Fischer and many family and friends whom she loved. Her children have been blessed to call her THEIR Mom. One of her greatest joys was being hugged by those who call her "Grandma."
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Trinity Church, 3355 Dunckel Rd., Lansing, MI 48911. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, September 18th at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 East Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823 and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. For those desiring, contributions may be made in memory of Anne to Trinity Church Missions Program or Great Lakes Caring, 3100-A West Road, Suite 100, East Lansing, MI 48823. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing chapel.
