In Loving Memory
Our beloved mother, Ann Casey Rohr, age 90, died September 9, 2015 in Lansing, Michigan.
She is survived by her children: Martha Nachreiner (Raymond), Elizabeth “Lisa” Wood (Alex), Matthew Rohr (Ann), Sarah Rohr, Margaret Rohr, and daughter-in-law, Kathryn Finnerty. She is also survived by grandchildren Casey, Claire, Michael, Laura, Stephanie, Daniel, Theresa, Anna, and Emma, as well as great-grandchildren Carter, Avery, and Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard David Rohr, her children Mary and Thomas, and her sister Barbara Hinz.
Ann was born in Detroit to William Alexander Casey and Shirley Baumgartner Casey on August 27, 1925.
She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart at Lawrence Avenue, and graduated from the University of Detroit. After graduation she taught at the Academy of the Sacred Heart until she married.
Her life was dedicated to God and to her family, and her accomplishments reflect that. She and Richard were married for 57 years, and had a large and loving family. Ann was a lifelong Roman Catholic and an active member of St. Clare of Montefalco, and St. Paul on the Lake parishes and became a daily communicant in her later years.
She was a long-time member of the Children of Mary, the Red Cross Blood Bank, Meals on Wheels, the Bon Secours Assistance League, and her weekly prayer group. She showed her dedication by serving in many leadership roles over the years. Ann was also proud to be a frequent blood donor.
Ann and Richard had a great affection for the Detroit area and a commitment to education. They regularly brought their children to the many museums, the Detroit Zoo, Belle Isle, and all the wonders of Downtown Detroit. They continued their support of the city with their donations to the arts, education and organizations addressing the social and economic needs of Detroit residents. They provided scholarships and other grants to Cornerstone Schools and Loyola High School in the City of Detroit since those schools were founded.
Ann enjoyed music, theater, was a world-wide traveler, and was an excellent Bridge player. We fondly remember her as an excellent cook and gracious hostess. She imparted to her children a great love of reading. Friends remember her as unfailingly loyal. At the heart of all her activities was the love of sharing time with friends and family.
The family thanks the wonderful staff at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan for their excellent care of Mom in her final months.
