Amy Amendt Allen passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2023. She was born on August 28, 1970, in Lansing, Michigan to Marge and Gordon Amendt. She grew up in East Lansing where she graduated from East Lansing High School and attended Lansing Community College, studying Early Childhood Development.
Amy worked at the Family Christian Bookstore in Okemos, Michigan for nearly 20 years before making the decision to stay at home to allow her more time for serving and helping others.
In 2009 Amy met her best friend, her road trip warrior and perfect partner, Mark. After a proposal on the Jumbotron at an MSU hockey game Amy and Mark were married, spending nearly 13 years together, appreciating each other and sharing their many interests. Countless trips to Disney World, weekend trips to anywhere, and their passion for all MSU sports were just a few of the things that filled their days and created lasting memories. They found fun and adventure wherever they went!
Amy gave of her time willingly to help others, taking friends to appointments, running errands, helping with home projects, dog sitting. She had a generous and giving heart and doing things for those less fortunate was second nature to her. She participated in the Samaritan’s Purse Ministry packing shoeboxes with gifts for children affected by war/poverty/natural disasters, the Backpack Ministry packing backpacks for disadvantaged children, a Christmas for Veteran’s project, Lansing/E. Lansing youth sports Parks and Rec programs, and numerous other volunteer activities. She and her husband adopted a family every Christmas to bring joy to those who were struggling. She was always looking for ways to brighten other people’s lives.
Amy had many hobbies including going to craft shows with her mother-in-law, Pam, scrapbooking, making photo albums, and various arts and crafts projects. Her favorite places were Disney World, Mullet Lake, the Maple Cottage on Catawba Island, and anywhere her family gathered. Her family was so important to her, and she loved any family gathering, but particularly Christmas. She would always boast that she had all her Christmas shopping done by March every year and, as an avid bargain hunter, she loved to share how she got something for practically nothing.
Her life, though much too short, was a life well lived. She found in Mark a love that brought her immeasurable happiness, she gave of herself to help others, she spread kindness and joy wherever she went, and she enjoyed the ride.
Those who touch our hearts stay in our lives forever.
Amy is preceded in death by her parents, Marge and Gordon Amendt. She is survived by her husband, Mark Allen, siblings Beth (Mark) Middleton, David (Leslee) Amendt, and Meg (Nate) Thompson, her nephews Cory (Andria) Amendt and Jordan Amendt, great niece and nephew Claire and Calvin Amendt, mother and father-in-law Pam and Terry Allen, Alice and Don Post, several cousins, the Judy family, Steve Gerkin, Connie, Steve, and Kristin Price.
