Al passed away due to complications arising from Agent Orange exposure that occurred during his service in Vietnam.
Born in Bethesda, MD to Carl Ellis and Peggy Sue (Vaughn) Kauffold who predeceased him. Al was also predeceased by his mom (step-mother) Ruth (Lareau/Walzak) Kauffold and brothers Carl M. Kauffold and Ralph F. Kauffold. Surviving: his wife of 50 years Ann M. Kauffold, sister Victoria W. Dunn of Grimesland NC, brother Chris X. Kauffold of Madison WI, children Timothy (Jamie) Kauffold of Yorkville, IL, Jessica Kauffold of Lansing MI and Samuel (Simone) Kauffold of Haslett, MI as well as 5 grandchildren (Carter, Quinn, Chase, Avery and Riley).
Following high school, Al joined the United States Marine Corps where he served for 7 years until his medical discharge in 1975 (Al always felt the highest compliment anyone could pay him was when they referred to him as a Marine).
Following the Marine Corps, Al continued his education and then went to work for the State of Michigan, Department of Social Services. He held a variety of positions in the course of a career that spanned more than 30 years.
Al would like everyone to raise a glass and drink a toast to nothing but the best of memories from what he considered to be a wonderful life.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Ralph Harvey, Sparrow Home Hospice, and the University of Michigan medical staff.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022 from 5:00PM - 8:00PM with rosary prayed at 7:30 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes - East Lansing Chapel, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, Michigan 48823; A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 955 Alton Road, East Lansing, Michigan 48823, with visitation one hour prior to mass starting at 10:30AM.
