Born in Isfahan, Iran on March 21, 1926, he was the son of the late Mohamad Taghi Shushtari-Alavi and Robab Sheikhoeslami. Ali received his education at Michigan State University and graduated in 1955 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Ali was an engineer for the Michigan Department of Transportation for 36 years before retiring in 1991. While in retirement, Ali continued to enjoy playing tennis, swimming, gardening, biking, playing cards with his friends, eating pizza, cheering on MSU football and basketball teams and, most of all, traveling to visit his family and friends.
Ali is survived by his beautiful and very dedicated wife of 43 years, Faye Shushtari. He is also survived by three sons; Gary, of Morrice, MI, and his daughters Anna and Ellen Shushtari; son Randy and his wife Colleen of Treasure Island, FL, and their daughters Kristen Zanker (SunJin) and Briana Richards (Christopher); and son Peter and his wife Carmen of Los Angeles, CA, and their sons Camden and Amory. Ali is also survived by three daughters; Linda Nartker, of Laingsburg, MI, and her husband Kirk and their sons Tony (wife Jill and great-grandchild Chevy) and Adam (wife Lindsey and great-grandchildren Henry and Lincoln); daughter Loretta Geisen, of East Lansing, MI, and her husband Gary; and daughter Sussan McLoughlin, of Raleigh, NC, and her husband Tate and their two children Julian and Gabrielle. Ali is also survived by several relatives, including his dear nieces and nephews, many of whom considered Ali as “one of my favorite Uncles”.
Ali adored his family immensely and they were the center of his universe. Ali is preceded in death by his brothers Javad; Hossein and his wife Yvonne; Jaffar and his wife Farrah; Mohsen and his surviving wife Mahin; Kazem and his surviving wife Aghdass; and sisters Talat, Ghamar, Ezat, Batol, Ashraf, Zahra, Shamool and Khadijeh.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, April 18, 2018. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Gorsline Ruciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI, 48823, followed by funeral services at 12:00 pm.
